问题     Oftentimes when we cry, we feel a lump in the throat.
Does a lump actually form, or is there some other explanation?
The lump-like thing we feel when overcome by emotion has to do
of how the nervous system deals with stress.【S1】________
The part of the nervous system that handles stress called the【S2】________
autonomic nervous system. It controls bodily functions what we do not【S3】________
consciously control, such as digesting food and pumping blood through
the heart.
However,  the autonomic nervous system is also important in
dealing with emotional states.
When an animal encounters a stressed situation,  its autonomic【S4】________
nervous system kicks in to allow it to either fight or run away. It does
this by increasing the flow of blood and oxygen to the necessary muscles.
The same applies for humans. Even when we experience emotions【S5】________
such as grief or sorrow, the autonomic nervous system responds as it
would to anger or fear by decreasing the flow of oxygen through the【S6】________
body. To increase oxygen intake, the autonomic nervous system makes
us breathe slower, and expands the glottis, the opening in the throat that【S7】________
allows air to flow from the larynx to the lungs.
The extension of the glottis in and of itself does not create a lumpy【S8】________
feeling, until we try to swallow.  Since swallowing involves in closing【S9】________
the glottis,  this works against the muscles that close the glottis in【S10】________
response to crying.
We experience the resulting muscle tension as a lump in the throat. [br] 【S5】

选项

答案 for—to

解析 介词误用。该句意为“同样的情况也适用于人类。”根据句意,句子中与apply相关的短语意思应该是“适用于……”,而apply for意思是“申请;请求”,故将for改为to。
