W: You have a good pub here.
M: The trade’s better in Haworth, the home of the Bronte sisters. It is an important tourist centre.
W: Have you ever read any Bronte novels?
M: No, the stories seem to have more appeal for women than men. My wife loves the Bronte novels, and she thinks it is marvellous that we’re going to Haworth.
W: What is the name of the pub?
M: Halfway House--it is halfway up the hill leading to Haworth.
W: What sort of customers do you hope to get?
M: People come to Haworth from all over the world. My wife will enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere, and so will I.
W: A lot of Americans, I suppose.
M: A lot. The hill leading to the village is steep, so I hope they will stop halfway up for a drink.
W: The Americans will want to go up the hill by car or taxi.
M: Not all of them. Admirers don’t ride in taxis. They’ll be prepared to tackle the hill on foot, and suffer a bit.
W: It sounds like a pub for women.
M: Oh, no. They’ll bring their husbands with them.
