问题 According to this passage, how is the word center spelled in British English? [br]
Today I am going to talk about the differences between British English and American English. To begin with, some of the spelling of the British English are really different. Words like theater and center end in "re" in England instead of in "er" the way the we Americans spell them. And color is another more example. In fact, many words, which end in "or" in American English, are spelled "our" in British English. However, if someone comes here from England, we can all understand what he is saying. So spelling doesn’t really matter that much. Besides, there are some differences in pronunciation and meaning too. I remember seeing an English movie where the actors kept calling their apartment a flat. Half of the movie was over before I realized what they were talking about. And pronunciation is different. In a word, British English and American English are different, but not so different that prevents us from understanding each other.

选项 A、British English and American English are the same.
B、They are so different that Americans can’t understand Englishmen when they are talking.
C、They have different spelling and vocabulary but the same pronunciation.
D、They have "slight different spelling vocabulary and pronunciation, but the people can understand each other.

答案 D

解析 英式英语和美式英语在拼写和发音上会存在一定区别,但不会影响交流。选项A说英式与美式英语完全一样,肯定不对;选项B说这两种语言太不一样了,以至于美国人根本听不懂英国人的话,文段最后一句说(not so different that prevents us from understanding each other),可见也是不对的;C选项说拼写不一样,但发音是一样的,这也是不对的。
