What is the main subject of the debate? [br]
M: We are having a debate on advertising tomorrow and I have to take part.
W: That’s interesting. I should like to hear what young people think about advertising.
M: Well, we wouldn’t know what there is to buy if we didn’t have advertising.
W: Yes, that’s true — up to a point. Advertisements provide information we need. If someone has produced a new article, naturally the seller wants to tell us about it.
M: Yeah, and advertisements tell us which product is the best.
W: Do they? I don’t think so. Every manufacturer says that their product is the best, or at least tries to give us that impression. Only one can be the best, so the others are misleading us, aren’t they?
M: Well, in away, I suppose, but we don’t have to believe them, do we?
W: Are you saying that advertisements aren’t effective? I don’t think that intelligent business people would spend millions of dollars on advertising if nobody believed advertisements, do you?
M: Perhaps not, but after all, it is their money that they are spending.
W: Is it? Maybe not. The cost of advertising is added to the price of the goods. You and I and all the other people who buy these goods pay for the advertising!
M: OK, I suppose we get something for our money — some information.
W: Yes, but don’t forget it is often misleading information, and sometimes harmful.
选项
A、providing persuasive information on products.
B、consuming millions of dollars.
C、providing sometimes misleading information.
D、communicating fair prices to consumers.
答案
D
解析
题干中的EXCEPT为定位信息,对话中没有提到的或与原文内容相矛盾的为答案。由... intelligent business people... if nobody believed advertisements和but don’t forget... sometimes harmful可知A 、 B 和C 都在对话中提到了,只有D 末涉及到,故答案为D 。
