With rapid social development, academic training seems to be lagging behind. It is always said a big proportion of what is being taught in our universities go out of time even before the graduation of the students. And some argue that focus of university education should shift from academic training to character education, since character can be more lasting than knowledge itself.
Write a composition of about 200 words on the following topic:
The Importance of Character Education
You are to write in three parts.
In the first part, state specifically what your opinion is.
In the second part, provide one or two reasons to support your opinion.
In the last part, bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or make a summary.
Marks will be awarded for content, organization, language and appropriateness. Failure to follow the instructions may result in a loss of marks.

The Importance of Character Education
We are in a constantly changing world now, and what universities should do to prepare the students to be ready for it is a question we can not run away from. And I believe character building should be attached equal importance with academic training.
The first fact that leads to my belief is that character is a more lasting quality of a person. Take responsibility as an example, those with a sense of responsibility will voluntarily force themselves to learn what is required to get their job done. By doing so, the task of updating one’s expertise is finished. And this, to a certain degree, can compensate what might be missing in the academic training. In addition, some educational experiment proves that if you teach students the merit of such values as truth, courage, integrity, leadership, curiosity and concern, then academic achievement naturally follows. So even for academic achievement itself, character education plays an indispensable role. And for academic education itself, focus should be shifted from mere know-how accumulation to trainings on critical thinking and so on.
So it becomes natural for us to draw such a conclusion that academic and character education should go hand in hand, and when they are combined to serve the ultimate purpose of educating better citizens for our society, it is the time when our education is successful.
