答案
Will Tourism Bring Harm to the Environment?
In recent years, tourism has been seen as a way of boosting confidence and stimulating spending when the global economy is in a slow-down. While the development of the tourist industry can help boost GDP growth and support related economic segments, the increasing number of tourists may pose a threat to the local environment.
Firstly, historic and cultural places and natural scenes have survived in the course of thousands of years and hence are fragile. When crowds of tourists flood into a certain scenic spot, the local environment would be easily affected by tourist activities. Tourism in Mount Qomolangma offers us a good example. It is estimated that every tourist would leave behind an average of 3 kg garbage after climbing the mountain. As a result, the local environmental authorities have to impose regulations to limit the number of tourists to Mount Qomolangma.
Secondly, visitors could inadvertently bring in new seeds—even diseases that might gain a foothold in the local environment. If this is the case, it will result in a biological disaster for that region. Besides, since China has become a favorite tourist destination for foreigners, foreign tourists might pose a potential risk for the local areas.
In conclusion, while the tourist industry could be a booming business, it could also do harm to the local environment. We should not reap profits from tourism at the expense of the environment.
