It happens often in college libraries that too many students choose academic libraries for their study area. As a result, the phenomenon of occupying library seats is becoming increasingly serious. Worse still, some occupied seats are underutilized, causing a waste of resources.

My Views on College Students’ Occupying Library Seats
The issue of "occupying seats" in university libraries has attracted much attention, and some occupied seats are underutilized, causing the waste of resources, which makes the whole situation worse. In my opinion, college administrators are responsible for the problem, and should strengthen the management of libraries and open more classrooms for students to use after class.
First, some measures should be taken to avoid students’ occupying a seat without using it. Just like any other public resource, the time of occupancy of unused library seat should be limited to the minimum length of time. Some universities introduce registration policy that during certain hours in a day, everyone who wants to get a seat in the library must register in advance. If they leave the library, they need to log-off in the machine too. This policy is really a very feasible one and is welcomed by most students.
Besides, college administrators should open more classrooms for students to use after class, since the limitation on classroom use is actually the root of the problem of limited library seats. In many universities, classrooms are forbidden to be used for anything other than classes. Such policies can really save a lot of maintenance expense for the school, but at the same time, it intensified the students’ need for learning resources. Under such circumstances, it is almost inevitable that the library is overly crowded all the time.
From what we have discussed above, we can conclude that libraries are colleges’ public resources. On the one hand, college administrators should strengthen the management and open more classrooms for students. On the other hand, students should respect college regulations and constrain individual behavior.
