International Summer Exchange Program
Good morning, everyone. Welcome to our introduction to the International Summer Exchange Program at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Our program welcomes all students from our partner institutions to study at our university in this summer. The program aims to create a rewarding exchange experience for students from around the world, [1]It comprises high-quality courses taught by our top academics, enhancing students’ understanding in their respective areas of study, and chances to participate in local excursions that enable students [2]to gain insight into the Hong Kong culture.
Courses in our program are offered by different schools of our university, including School of Science, School of Engineering, School of Business and Management, and School of Humanities and Social Science. [3]The participants are required to study at least one regular undergraduate course that total to 3 to 9 credits. Courses normally bear 3 credits unless otherwise specified. Students who wish to study more than 9 credits must seek prior approval from our university. [4]The list of courses offered in our program is available on our website. We will produce transcript detailing the courses taken and the grades obtained. A free copy of transcript will be issued to each participant. A copy will also be sent to your home institution at the end of the exchange program upon your consent. As for credit transfers, they are approved by your home institution. You should consult your home institution on this matter before applying for the program.
Now, about accommodation. [5]On-campus accommodation is compulsory for participants. [6]You will be assigned to a double or triple room in a student hall on campus for the program duration. All of the rooms are air conditioned and furnished with desks, chairs, bookshelves and beds, [7]but pillows, linens, and towels are not supplied. Common facilities include bathrooms, showers, TV rooms and pantries with microwave ovens. Washing and drying machines are provided and you can pay for the fee by using the student smartcard.
About program fees. The basic program fee is USD 849, including on-campus accommodation fee, program activities fee, and any administrative fees. [8]Student visa application fee is USD 58, but this is not applicable to students who do not require a student visa to study in Hong Kong. Travel insurance fee is USD 43. So the total program fee is USD 950.
Now, let’s look at the application procedures. There are three steps. The first step is to seek your home institution’s nomination to participate in our program as an exchange student. [9]The second step is to complete and submit the online application form. In the last step, you need to email your latest grade report or transcript to us. [10]If your transcript is not in English, please provide an English translation certified by your home institution. Upon receipt of your complete application, we will send you an admission letter and an information package to help you prepare for your exchange.
OK, that’s the end of the introduction today. I hope to see you in our summer program. Thank you.
