YES
It is one of Chinese tradition virtues to care for and help the old. When they fall down, helping them to stand up is a very small thing we can do to them.
Imagine if your own grandfather or grandmother fell down. Would you give them a hand? We shouldn’t be biased in helping those people in need because good deeds may be relayed.
NO
It is hard to judge whether a person who falls down is really in need or just plays the trick to cheat money. Without knowing this, helping the old will only get us into unnecessary trouble, for example, the financial disputes.
It is not an obligation but a choice for citizens to help the people in need or not. Helping others can be appreciated and awarded. But that doesn’t mean not helping is something bad which must be criticized and even punished.
Write your response on ANSWER SHEET THREE.

Help the Old in Need
The story between the good-doer and the old who fell down has stirred a heated debate recently. Should we help the old in need? Supporters hold that helping the person in need coincides with Chinese tradition virtues and such a practice can be relayed. Some object to it for helping others, at best a moral choice, may get us into potential disputes. From my perspective, people should be encouraged and volunteer to help the old in need.
To begin with, not everyone who falls down is the stamp who cheats money out of help-givers for medical compensations. Just imagine the case: a person with heart attack falls down and dies for lack of timely rescue. As a matter of fact, he could be saved if people passing by could stop and take some measures to help him. Such tragedy can be avoided by starting out very small to help others. What’s more, it is a moral decline to stand by those people really in need, which will breed indifference and discourage more people to stay away from them. Basic humanitarian support is the mark of the advance of a society, while coldness will only isolate individuals.
To conclude, we should know how to wisely help people in need, instead of taking a lame excuse for indifference.
