M: So, 30 hours all together. But it was fun. We drove down to Mexico, and had a good night, a good meal, a little bit of drinks and drove back the next day.
W: So you went to Tijuana?
M: No, we went to, ah, Ciudad Juarez.
W: OK. Nice.
M: That was really fun. And we took a lot of other trips. When I lived in Oregon, we often went down to California to surf (冲浪).
W: Oh, really?
M: Yeah!
W: Oh, you’re a surfer?
M: A little bit, a little bit of a surfer.
W: OK. What kind of car did you drive? What did you use for this road trip?
M: Well, typical American. Uh, a four-wheel drive vehicle—big vehicle, lots of gas but a lot of fun.
W: Oh man, you’re from Oregon. You are supposed to be a irec hugger (环境保护狂)!
M: Yeah. But there’re good things. One rule we had on our road trips was that when we saw any lake or big body of water, we had to stop and swim in. It was a good thing to do.
W: Well, you live in Japan now. Do you ever take road trips in Japan?
M: I took a road trip from Niigata up around Hokkaido and back, so it was a long road trip actually.
W: Wow! What’s the difference between a road trip in Japan and a road trip in America?
M: Well, a road trip in Japan… It’s a little bit more difficult to get around. It’s a little bit more expensive. Uh, in America road tripping is sort of something a lot of people do.
W: Yeah!
M: And in Japan, when we do that it is a little bit strange, a little bit different, and not very normal.
W: Yeah, that’s true. OK, great. Thanks a lot, Steve.
M: Alright.
