M: Oh, hi, Laura—not too bad. Thanks. How are you?
F: Oh, extremely busy as usual. I’m on my way to my third meeting today. How’s that lovely girlfriend of yours?
M: Oh, we split up three weeks ago. Jessica’s on holiday with her new boyfriend.
F: Oh, no-trust me to say something to make you feel worse. I’m really sorry.
M: No, it’s okay. I need to talk about it.
F: Who’s her new boyfriend?
M: It’s her boss. You wouldn’t know him. He’s not from around here.
F: What kind of work does he do?
M: I don’t know really. He seems to be involved in a lot of things. He owns several companies anyway, including the one which Mandy was working for.
F: Oh, Phil, I don’t know what to say.
M: Yeah—it’s hard. I mean, we were supposed to be going on holiday together in a couple of weeks.
F: So, what are you going to do?
M: I don’t know—I haven’t decided yet. I might go anyway, or I might not feel like it when the time comes. I don’t know. I’ll just have to see how I feel at the time.
F: Look, Phil, I’m afraid I’ve got to run—but if you need some sympathy, you know where to find me.
M: Thanks, Laura—I’ll be fine.
