问题     In the current cultural atmosphere, much is made of interchangeability between the sexes. Women can hold men’s jobs, and men can hold women’s; both men and women can play the same sports; both are supposed to share household responsibilities. Also,【F1】with the rise of so many single parent families, mothers or fathers often have to become two-parents-in-one for their teenager.
    Yet, despite these trends, I believe firmly that there is a special importance in same-sex relationships between mothers and daughters, and fathers and sons. Without these relationships, or some substitute that fulfills a similar function, it’s hard for children and parents to experience the full range of intimate talking relationships.
    My reasoning?【F2】In order to function effectively in the adult world, we need good role models to show us how to behave and react. To be sure, you can learn a great deal from the parent of the opposite sex, and in the same cases, you may learn all you need to know. But in most cases, there is no real substitute for a good same-sex role model to give a child the best chance at complete and well-balanced emotional development.
    Perhaps the most important lessons we learn from our same-sex parents are how to relate both to people of the same sex and also to those of the opposite sex. Thus, sons need a strong male role model to learn how men deal with each other and with women. Similarly, daughters need a strong female model to understand how women relate to each other and to men.
