Washington—The United States this week began quietly reducing the number of its troops in Bosnia, removing "excess" helicopters and military vehicles no longer considered necessary, reports said Thursday.

Seven people have been shot dead by a man in Germany, after one of the victims rejected a proposal of marriage to his daughter. The bodies of the victims, four women and three men, were found in an apartment in a West German town of Belfast. The suspect fled from the scene, but was found dead five hours later in his car. Police say the man had shot himself. The victims and the killer were Turkish, and possibly ethnic Kurds.
