答案     When we were young and ignorant, we were always swelled with inherent pride. We labeled those we cannot understand as unintelligent, be them people or things. As time goes on, however, we are suddenly enlightened and astonished by the awareness that it is we ourselves who are truly unintelligent.
The knowledge that we obtain can be analogous to a circle. Inside the circle is what we know and what we name knowledge: outside the circle is what we don’t know and need to explore. As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it. So the more we know, the more we feel that we don’t know. We become humble and modesty.
In the last seven years, Mark Twain’s father may not bear such amazing changes. What changes is the circle of Mark Twain himself. The fourteen-year old Mark Twain only possessed a small circle of knowledge. At the year of twenty-one, he himself felt shaded by the darkness surrounding his growing circle. This enlightenment means the maturity of mentality.
