   The body language serves a variety of purposes. Firstly it can replace verbal commuinication, as with the use of gestures. Finally, it conveys our emotions and attitudes. This is particularly important for successful cross-culture communication.
   Every culture has its own "body language", and children absorb its nuances along with spoken language. The way an Englishman crosses his legs is nothing 【C8】______ the way a male American does it. When we communicate with people from other culture, the body language sometimes helps make the communication easy and 【C9】______ (effect), such as shaking hands is such a universal gesture that people all over the world know that it is a signal for greeting.
