This part is to test your ability to do practical writing. You are required to write a business letter according to the following information given in Chinese below. Remember to write it on the Translation /Composition Sheet.
你是一家公司的市场部经理王华。你的一个客户公司给你部门写信,询问是否能考虑降低你们的产品报价。今天(2006年6月24日)你给该公司的负责人Mr.Davis写封回信表示理解他们的要求,但是由于原料价格上升使你们的生产成本提高,你们已给出最低报价。同时说明你们的产品比其他供应商的竞争力强,目前已收到很多订单。建议该客户能重新考虑你方的报价并希望尽快得到答复。
注意:必须包括对收信人的称谓,写信日期,发信人的签名等基本格式。

Dear Mr. Davis,
Your requirement of reducing our product price is quite understandable. However, we are sorry to inform you that reducing the price is impossible. For one thing, the cost of raw materials is rising, which in turn leads to the increase of our production cost, so our quotation is the lowest price that we can offer. In addition, our product quality is so competitive relative to other supplies that we have received heavy orders.
Could you reconsider our quotation and conclude the deal? Your early reply is appreciated.

解析
商业信函常用的格式有三种:简化的现代格式、缩进排列格式以及综合格式。注意写作时遵循其中一种格式即可。商业信函由信头(包括写信人的公司名称、地址等信息)、信内地址(收信人姓名、地址)、写信日期、称呼、正文、结束用语(如Yours truly或Yours sincerely)以及落款七个部分。本文只要求包括称谓、写信日期和发信人的签名等基本格式。这里需要注意的是:
1.日期包含的月份年份不能用缩写格式。
2.称呼后的标点符号一般用逗号。
3.商业信函属于正式文体,不能有缩写形式,如We’ll等。同时在回信时,注意语气恰当、内容简洁。
有关报价和还盘的常用语句:
1)Thank you for your inquiry No.123 for leather suitcases,we are pleased to offer them as follows:感谢你方123号有关皮箱的询价,现非常高兴向你方报盘如下:
2)Under separate cover we are sending you several copies of our catalogue,enabling you to make suitable se—lection.另行寄上我方目录若干份,以便你方做出适当选择。
3)We appreciate the good quality of your products,but unfortunately your price appears to be on the high sideeven of the quality.We regret that at these prices we cannot place an order.我们很欣赏你方产品的质量,但十分遗憾的是虽然质量不错,但你方价格还是偏高了。很抱歉按此价格我们无法下订单。
4)We feel that your quotation is not proper because the price for such material is on the decline at present.我们认为你方的报价不合适,因为该种材料的价格正在下跌。
5)You could benefit from higher sale with a little concession,say a 2%reduction.只要稍作让步,比方说降价2%,你就可以因为销量增加而获益。
