Truancy (逃学) sweeps around Britain recently
revealed thousands of children missed school—and turned
up some ridiculous excuses, the Education Ministry said.
The figures showed that more than 12 000 pupils stopped 【S1】______
by truancy patrols, around half was accompanied by a parent. 【S2】______
"This is a situation that cannot be allowed to continue.
Parents have to take responsibility otherwise they are
jeopardizing in their children’s future," Education Minister 【S3】______
Stephen Twigg said in a statement. "Around half of the
children stopped with a parent had no good excuse of being 【S4】______
out of school. Some of the reasons they did supply were
acceptable." 【S5】______
Amongst the excuse given for missing school were: 【S6】______
"because of a spot on my nose," " unliking Mondays," " 【S7】______
because it’s my birthday" and "my cat died and I need to buy
a new one." One parent was stopped with her child and said
she did not have time discuss why the child was not in 【S8】______
school because she needed to buy a pair of jeans.
More than 900 truancy patrols were carried away 【S9】______
between April 29 and May 30. They were targeted to 【S10】______
shopping centres and known trouble spots throughout
