答案                                  College Reading Room Phenomenon
As is shown in the graph of the college reading room attendance, there are roughly two cycles with great rise and fall. When the new term starts in September, there are about 275 students who go to the reading room. The number increases rapidly with each passing month till November and still increases at a much lower rate, reaching the peak just before the exams in early December. During the winter vacation, most students go home, so the number of students using the reading room drops to almost 175. The second cycle in the spring semester is similar to the first. After three months the number goes up greatly. It is only after April, with the approaching final exams in mind that most students start seriously using the facilities of the reading room. During the summer vacation, students are rarely seen in it.
The attendance figures reflect the students’ life at college. The graph indicates that exams are the driving force for many students. In the first two months of each semester, quite a few students relax since exams are still far away. They only study hard in reading room a few weeks before the exams because there they can easily get hold of all the references they need for their term papers or the exams. In fact, students should not study for the sake of exams because it is just one effective way of testing the knowledge they have absorbed. Therefore, if they studied not for the exams but for acquiring knowledge, their lives would be much easier.
As I see it, the key to real success in study lies in one’s willingness to acquire knowledge and get good command of modern science and technology. So if one wants to be a talented student, he should attend every lecture and eagerly absorb new knowledge in the reading room. Thus the graph above would have a smoother or steadier curve.
