Dear Students,
Time flies when you’re having fun. Enrolment is nearly over and now it is time to get down to some business. Induction week is the beginning of your course. Your induction will include which modules you will be studying in what year, an overview of optional modules which can be picked in the second and third years, an overview of your timetable and an overview of helpful websites. So as you can see, there will be a lot to cover from the lecturers.
But as a student, you’re wondering when the fun starts. It can happen in these induction classes as you begin to meet new friends and begin to explore the university, but where do you start?
You’ve had a letter. All students enrolling this week have been given a letter stating where they will need to be next week. Ensure you know where your induction is as it could be in any of our three buildings, Summer Row, McIntyre House and Richmond House and ensure you also have plenty of time to get to your destination.
Begin to study and scan the class. Find friends for life or study partners. The importance of this step is crucial. University is a confusing place which is filled with different people with different aspirations and objectives. Friends and study partners should stay well clear of each other and don’t be in a group assignment with party animals. Trust me, it does not end well.
Talk to older students. Students who are in their second and third years have already had their first-year experience and would be able to tell you freshmen what they feel their mistakes were, what they would have done less of, what they would have done more of. Having a mentor-type person looking over you really does enhance your university experience.
Explore University. You’ve all probably been here for an open day and explored the University already but no one is holding you back from exploring yourself. University College Birmingham has a gym, a spa, two restaurants, a resource centre, two libraries, countless computer rooms and workspaces etc. It’s your duty to explore...
Enjoy. It seems to be the conclusion to everything I say, but enjoyment is a very important attribute to consider. You’ve just invested nearly £27,000 and three years of your life into university,[19]so you may as well enjoy it and if you don’t, notify somebody and don’t stay quiet. I’m sure the problem can be rectified.
To all the new inductees: I hope your time here is filled with excitement and adventure. To all returning students, I hope you’ve had a great summer break and ready to get into the partying and studying mood again.
16. What will begin after the enrolment is over?
17. What is stated in the letter given to every new student?
18. How can a freshman enhance his or her university experience?
19. What can students do if they don’t enjoy the university life?

选项 A、Places where he/she needs to go.
B、Fun at university.
C、Time for the classes.
D、University websites.

答案 A
