    CET-4 is a nationwide unified examination for Chinese undergraduates. And many universities take it as the standard to evaluate their students’ English level. Therefore, there are two such exams each year.
    When it comes to the question of "Is CET-4 necessary", people hold different opinions. Many people think that CET-4 is necessary. They have two reasons: First, it can motivate college students to learn English in one way or another. Second, while college students are applying for a job, a CET-4 certificate can serve as an evidence for their English level. But some others think differently. They complain that CET-4 is not a best way to test a college student’s English level as some college students with a CET-4 certificate still can’t communicate successfully in English.
    In my opinion, we need an evaluating system like CET-4 to test our English level. But as a national evaluating system, the present CET-4 is not scientific enough to test our English level. Thus CET-4 needs to be improved.
