W: (22)So, who are some of the people fighting to protect these trees besides you?
M: Well, in Tasmania, the first green political party was developed, so they obviously want to protect the forests a lot.(23)They conduct big protests, tie themselves to trees and sit up in trees to protect the trees.
W: People actually still do that? Tie themselves to trees?
M: Oh, everyday in Tasmania.
W: That’s interesting.(24)I once heard of a girl who lived in a tree for a month because she wanted to stop people from taking down that tree.
M: (24)That happens in Tasmania as well. There are people today, maybe up to 50, who permanently live up in trees.
W: That’s kind of crazy. .. But Nick, from the companies’ point of view, they provide jobs for all the people who are working to make trees into paper. What do you think they have to say about that?
M: Well, it’s true they do provide jobs, and some cities do rely on logging industry to provide jobs and support the shops in the place, but.. .
W: But?
M: (25)But as tourism is a very big industry in Tasmania, maybe the logging industry takes tourists away as well, because it makes certain areas not suitable for tourism anymore.
W: Yeah, you are right. If the whole forest is missing, I guess nobody would really want to go and look at anything.
M: Yes, there’re some really beautiful spots in Tasmania which have been stained a little by the logging industry.
