M: I can’t believe my literature teacher is making me read Pride and Prejudice!
W: Why not?(9)It’s a classic; in fact, it’s one of my favorite novels.
M: But it’s so old.
W: Don’t judge a book by its cover. Do you know what it’s about?
M: No, not at all. I never read it.
W: First of all, it’s a love-related novel, set in the early 19th century.
M: I didn’t realize it was a love-related novel. (10)What is the main plot?
W:(10)It’s basically about a father and a mother trying to marry off their five daughters.
M: Why does they want to do that?
W: Since they don’t have a son, they hope that one of their daughters will marry a wealthy man. That way, all of their daughters will be cared for.
M: Won’t their danghters get their inheritance?
W: No, that’s the problem. Though they are well-off, once they die, their house will go to their cousin. So, when they die, their daughters will have nothing.
M: I see. This sounds interesting! Maybe my teacher isn’t so horrible after all.
W: So, are you going to read the novel or watch the movie?
M: There’s a movie? My teacher didn’t tell me that!
W:(11)That’s probably because she wants you to read the book first.
M:(11)Well, it would take a lot less time...
W: How about this? When you finish the book, I’ll get the movie and watch it with you.
M: OK, that sounds like a deal.
