   There are some people who think it is best to mind your own business and let friends make mistakes. This is not an opinion that I subscribe to. I think it is much better to let your friend know exactly how you feel, even if it risks ruining the friendship. There are some reasons why I feel this way: honesty is essential between friends, and we should help our friends when they make difficult decisions.
   First of all, I feel you should tell your friend they are making a mistake because friends have a duty to be honest with each other. Honesty is the basis of any decent friendship, and without it, the trust between people can be undermined. For example, I discovered once that a friend of mine did not like my partner and was gossiping about our relationship behind my back. It angered me that my friend did not confront me honestly, and our friendship was never the same again.
   In addition, I think you should say something because friends need to help each other make difficult decisions. Friends are there to help you navigate through life. Imagine that a friend of yours decides to quit his job, and you think it is a terrible idea. Perhaps if you tell him how you feel and explain why, he will reconsider his decision. But if you say nothing and your friend ends up in a difficult position, you will feel guilty for not speaking up.
   Essentially, I think it is imperative that you be honest and let your friend know your opinion if you think they are making a mistake. That way, you will be able to keep the honesty in your friendship and help your friend make the best possible decisions. Quite frankly, if speaking your mind ruins your friendship, it cannot have been that strong a bond in the first place.
