   Any student is welcome to join the seminar section of our core science program．In the seminar, we read, discuss, and write about various topics in science and mathematics． We assume no background in mathematics or physics．We explore ideas about nature,  history, and the philosophy of science, as well as methods of physics and mathematics． Readings and topics vary each term．Seminar students work together with beginning and advanced science students．Students earn 2 or 4 science credits by participating in one or two seminars each week and by completing short papers and online assignments．

   The man expresses his opinion about the science seminar．State his opinion and explain the reasons he gives for holding that opinion．
Now listen to two students as they discuss the science seminar.
M: I’m going to enroll in the science seminar.
W: Why? You’re not a science major.
M: You don’t have to be a science major, but you can earn credits that count toward the science requirement.
W: I didn’t know that.
M: I need science credits,  and the seminar looks like a good way to get them. I used to like science when I was a kid,  and I read a lot of books about nature. Then later I lost interest because most science classes are boring. I didn’t like the one science class I took here, but it seems like this seminar will be different, and probably more interesting. I like the idea of studying with advanced students.
W: That doesn’t bother you? I mean, they’re students,  not teachers.
M: That doesn’t bother me at all. I see it as a good opportunity. Maybe advanced students wilt make science more exciting and real. Maybe I’ll start to like science again. The only thing I don’t like is the part about writing reports.
W: Oh,  but you’ll have all those advanced students to help you.
M: Yeah!
