Integrated Writing Directions
For this task, you will first have three minutes to read a passage about an academic topic. You may take notes on the passage if you wish. The passage will then be removed and you will listen to a lecture about the same topic. While you listen, you may also take notes.
Then you will have 20 minutes to write a response to a question that asks you about the relationship between the lecture you heard and the reading passage. Try to answer the question as completely as possible using information from the reading passage and the lecture. The question does not ask you to express your personal opinion. You will be able to see the reading passage again when it is time for you to write. You may use your notes to help you answer the question.
Typically, an effective response will be 150 to 225 words long. Your response will be judged on the quality of your writing and on the completeness and accuracy of the content. If you finish your response before time is up, you may Clink on Next to go on to the second writing task.
Now you will see the reading passage for three minutes. Remember it will be available to you again when you write immediately after the reading time ends. The lecture will begin, so keep your headset on until the lecture is over.
Changing jobs frequently can do your career more harm than good. If you have been in more than three jobs over the last five years, you may need to seriously evaluate your job-hopping habit.
Changing jobs frequently reflects badly on your resilience and loyalty as an employee. You could be seen as someone who lacks self-motivation, is directionless or prone to feeling restless at the workplace. In addition, recruiters may not be convinced that you have gained enough experiences and on-the-job skills since you have not stayed at any particular company for very long. They are also worried that you may leave them shortly after they hire you, forcing them to start the recruiting process all over again!
Certain workers may feel that job-hopping provides them with a wide exposure to different work environments. By changing jobs frequently, they make their network of business contacts wider and in some cases, they easily get a salary raise. However, these workers need to weigh such advantages against the negative perception that potential employers may have about their constant job-changing habits.
Workers with a set career plan can see that the short-term benefits (for example, a quick raise in salary) will not make up for the depth of experience that they stand to gain from staying on a job. Under what circumstances is it be considered acceptable to job-hop? During the initial stage of your career, you may find that you are not sure of which direction to take, or which job and industry will suit you best.
Now listen to part of a lecture on the topic you just read about.
Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard and explain how they cast doubt on points made in the reading.
Professor
Okay, for the longest time "job-hopping" was a dirty word in HR offices. Common belief especially after the dot com bubble burst in our face—was that it would not boost, but hurt your chances of landing a new job. Well, that time may well be up. Fortunately for us, the corporate world’s restructuring in recent years has changed attitudes in favor of switching jobs. Not only has the stigma associated with job-hopping disappeared, recruiters say, but executives who have recharged their careers by making logical shifts are even admired as savvy operators. And that’s the key, making logical shifts.
In a way, planning for your career is like a chess move. You should not just plan on your next move, but on the next four to five moves in advance. It is incredibly difficult to move to the perfect job in one step, because you likely will not get there.
Regardless of what your career line is, making smart job hop moves would ensure your personal development. Do not just go into your next job only because it pays more or allows you to leave your current miserable lot in job life. Know exactly what you intend to get out of every job change by performing an explicit analysis of how each new position will add to your skills, experience, mastery, maturity and personal satisfaction.
So, yes...job-hopping is good, or rather, it can be good if you know how to do it right.
Question:
Summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard and explain how they cast doubt on points made in the reading.

答案
Nowadays it has been a common phenomenon that more and more people change their jobs frequently. Job-hopping undoubtedly bears its advantages, since it enables people to learn more (usually also earn more), make bigger contributions, gain more skills and face greater challenges if they stay in a job for a certain period of time.
Of course, there are some arguments from those conservative people about the negative effects of job-hopping. They claim that changing jobs frequently reflects a lack of loyalty to your company as an employee. In addition, they assert that recruiters may consider you do not have enough experience and on-the-job skills since you have not stayed in any particular company for long. Fortunately, this is not the real picture for recruiters any more. They say the stigma associated with job-hopping has disappeared and they hold their objective attitudes towards those job-hoppers. The second worry is that the short-term benefits (for example, a quicker salary jump) may not make up for the depth of experience that they stand to gain from staying in a job. That’s not the problem to the point, either. As long as you make a logic shift, which doesn’t mean you job-hop only for a salary jump, the new position will not diminish your talent or experience, but add to your skills, experience, mastery, maturity and personal satisfaction.
Therefore, job-hopping is beneficial, or rather, it can be beneficial if you know how to use it in the right way.
