问题     You will read a short passage, listen to a talk, and answer a question about them. After you hear the question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare a response and 60 seconds to record the response.
Now read the letter from the university newspaper about a suggestion to hold graduation ceremony outdoors. You will have 45 seconds to read the letter. Begin reading now.
Graduation Ceremony Should Be Held Outdoors
Each year, the graduation ceremony has taken place inside Jenkins Hall. I think the location should be changed. From now on, I think the ceremony should be held outside on the lawn in the center of campus. Guests will get to enjoy the beautiful trees, flowers, and fresh air. We have a beautiful campus, and it would be great if the guests could enjoy that. Also, in Jenkins Hall there are only seats for a limited number of people. The lawn is huge, so more people would be able to attend the ceremony if it were held outdoors.
                                                                                                                                                                                Sincerely,
                                                                                                                                                                              Sarah Knight
Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
The man expresses his opinion of the student’s proposal. State his opinion and explain the reason he gives for holding that opinion.
Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
M: Did you see this letter?
W: Yeah, what do you think?
M: I don’t agree. I wouldn’t change it.
W: Why not?
M: Well, nobody is really going to be looking at the view.
W: Probably not. They’ll be watching the stage.
M: Exactly. They’ll be sitting down watching the ceremony. Besides, they can always check out the campus after the ceremony. Lots of people do that.
W: That’s true, but there’re other advantages. Like she said, more space would be great.
M: I don’t see the problem there either.
W: So you think we should limit the number of guests?
M: I don’t think that’s necessary. Our class isn’t that big. There’s plenty of room for everybody to get tickets for their immediate family and friends, plus the university broadcasts the event and shows it on TVs around campus, so anyone else who wants to watch the event can see it.
W: Oh, I didn’t realize that. So I wouldn’t have to invite some of my friends from the dorm because they can just go to the student center or something and watch it live on TV.
M: Right.
W: Hmm… some of them might even prefer that to sitting in the hall.
M: Yeah, so there’s definitely no space issue.

答案     The reading passage proposes that the graduation ceremony should be held outside on the lawn, rather than inside Jenkins Hall as usual. It thinks, for one thing, guests could therefore enjoy the view of the campus and for another, the seats in the hall are too limited. The man disagrees with this proposal. He believes that even if the guests were seated outdoors, they wouldn’t have time for the view because their focus would be all on the stage. Besides, they can always take a tour around the campus after the ceremony. For the second point, cos his class doesn’t have that many students, the man thinks that the Jenkins Hall has enough room for the graduates, their families and friends. And those who don’t have a ticket can watch the live broadcast on TV.
