Firstly, people with the same cultural background is likely to share similar habits, so it’s easier to achieve mutual understanding with each other. Secondly, studying abroad can be a difficult and lonely process; but one can feel more at home when living with roommates from the same culture. Last but not least, one and his or her roommates from the same cultural background might have similar problems, for example, cultural shock. So they can face their problems together.
