We all know that the advantages the telephone brings to us are far more than its disadvantages. In other ways, however, it has had a negative effect on our lives.
   On the positive side, the telephone has been used as one of the most popular communication tools and widely applied in many fields such as doing business, communicating with people, providing more employment opportunities and dealing with emergencies.  For example, the telephone has made doing business much easier and more efficient. It has made life easier for the consumer. People can pick up the phone to place or check on an order. The telephone has also made the world seem smaller. It allows us to talk with people all over the country and even all over the world. The telephone also helps you stay in touch with friends, and relatives, both near and far. In addition, the telephone has created many new industries and jobs. It has also saved countless lives in emergencies.
   On the negative side, the telephone can be a big time waster, both at work and at home. It often interrupts us and can even keep us from accomplishing our daily tasks. The telephone has also brought us plenty of unwanted calls. The telephone fewers people write personal letters. The telephone can also cause people to make fewer personal visits, since they can simply talk to people on the phone.
   From the above, we can see, then, the role that the telephone plays in our lives. It is widely used in our daily life. Even so, it has had both positive and negative effects on modem life.
