问题     The statement of "never, never give up" hails the spirit of perseverance, a personality nurtured in some cultures. However, some people think we should know when to let go, instead of cling to something forever. Do you agree that we should always keep trying until we reach our goals? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

答案                     Perseverance vs. Letting Go
As Thomas Edison rightly put it, "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." But for me, it is equally important to be perseverant and to practice the wisdom of letting go.
Without doubt, being determined and committed to our goals will be more likely to lead us to success than taking a stab at whatever targets at hand. If we have set our minds to do something, we will concentrate on the time, energy and efforts that matter, rather than being distracted by the random and futile attempts. For instance, J. K. Rowling, the world renowned author of Harry Potter series, had always cherished her dream to be a writer. Her parents, from poor background, tried to convince her to study business to secure a job after graduation. Rowling did not give up her dream and took classics courses instead. Even at the point of being hopelessly down and out, she did not give up her endeared novels. Had she been swayed by the poverty and got herself into a commercial job, we would not have the opportunity to enjoy one of the greatest magical fictions to date. Perseverance surely helps us focus on what we want to achieve and channel all the resources we have to realize that goal.
While we recognize the importance of never giving up, we should also be wise to caution ourselves against being stubborn. Some people might mistake the statement of "never, never give up" as the equivalence of trying the same thing re-peatedly. However, persistence does not mean that we shall stick to the same failures proven by substantial evidences. Rather, it means that we shall learn from the mistakes and re-strategize our methods to reach our targets. For example, sprint athletes who desire to win the competition usually subject themselves to various drills. If they stick to the wrong exercises, like practicing walking upside down, a routine drill to train acrobatic performers, they will not rise to championship, no matter how hard they try. Letting go the inappropriate means is a wise choice for us to achieve our ends.
To conclude, it is advisable that we should never give up our goals, but in our pursuit of them, we should abandon some of the proven dead ends and steer ourselves into the right track towards the destination.
