According to a recent regulation issued by the Ministry of Health, smoking will be banned in all enclosed public locations in China. Some people think this regulation is a bit harsh for China, home to a third of the world’s smokers. What is your opinion? Should we ban smoking in all enclosed public places in China? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

No Smoking in Enclosed Public Places
Each year, millions of RMB are spent in curing smoking-related diseases. The regulation of banning smoking in enclosed public places may pose some inconveniences to smokers, but I think it is a win-win strategy that benefits both the smokers themselves and those non-smokers.
First of all, this ban, to a certain extent, helps smokers to smoke less or get rid of the smoking habit. As we know, smoking nowadays is inclined to be a social activity. If you don’t have companies to keep, chances are that you are discouraged to smoke. Take the following as an example. You and your friends are in a bar, enjoying beers and having a nice chat. At some point, you want to smoke, but your companions don’t, so you have to excuse yourself from the group and go all the way out to enjoy the "smoky ritual". When you return, you will have a hard time catching up with the conversation chain. Wouldn’t it be better if you stay there all the time and refrain from smoking? That is why one third of smokers in Scotland confessed that ban of smoking helped them to smoke less or even give up. Chinese smokers could also expect the same effect from the ban.
What’s more, the regulation protects the health of nonsmokers. When people smoke, the hazardous substances not only harm the smokers, but also those who breathe in the smoke, known as second-hand smoking or passive smoking. It is estimated that China is home to more than 300 million regular smokers, and over 700 million people are routinely exposed to harmful second-hand smoke. In this case, the nation has to pay a large amount of healthcare bills to cure the diseases like cancers, strokes and heart attacks, caused by the active and passive smoking. By imposing this ban, the health and well-being of one billion people will be preserved. How could we be cruel and heartless enough to say "no" to this ban?
Besides the benefits to smokers and non-smokers, the ban also does good to some businessmen running bars, restaurants or KTVs. According to a survey, many fire accidents in public places like bars and KTVs are caused by smoking, which results in great loss. The ban therefore can to some extent reduce the chance of fire accidents and save some money for the businessmen.
In conclusion, banning smoking in all enclosed public places is in the best interest of the health of both smokers and non-smokers. Even the businessmen can also see light from such regulation.
