Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri has declared an end of martial law in the troubled northern province of Aceh. The lifting of martial law took effect at mid-night Tuesday local time, exactly a year after the military took over the region. In a television speech to the nation, Ms. Megawati said Aceh will be under civilian authority but will still be subjected to extraordinary security measures to help government forces hunt down separatist guerillas.
