答案                     Interview: A Win-win Situation
With the approach of graduation, many university students will have to face the problem about how to find a satisfying job. While taking pains to make a fine-looking resume, they are worried about a series of unpredictable interviews. Some even complain about the disadvantages of interviews, such as unfair competition due to personal relationship and great expenditure on expensive dresses.   Of course some of those complaints are close to the truth. Nevertheless, with regard to the future development for both employers and employees, advantages of a job interview far outweigh its disadvantages.
First of all, interview will help an employer get to know a job applicant better. Many people believe that employers do think highly of the first impression. They usually assume that a beauty or a handsome man will have more opportunities to get a job than an ordinary-looking competitor. While as a matter of fact, a promising company will put more emphasis on an interviewee’s professional skills and inner qualities than on his face. By giving challenging questions and observing an interviewee’s responses, interviewers will come to see whether one is suitable for the position he has applied for and then pick out the right person that the company wants.
Secondly, various forms of interview can sharpen university graduates’ practical skills and prepare them for their future work. For instance, interviewees can learn how to deal with tricky questions and unexpected incidents. An interview usually provides a job-hunter with a chance to talk about his or her opinion on a problem. Those who show originality or flexibility always get more appreciation. To some extent, an interview helps an inexperienced job-hunter to see and narrow the gap between practical life and textbook knowledge. Besides, if an interview takes the form of workshop, the interviewees will probably learn the importance of taking initiative or cooperating with others. In other words, under different circumstances, an interviewee can put different abilities into full play. Even if one fails an interview, he has made progress in some way and will succeed in his job search sooner or later.
Thirdly, a well-organized interview embodies fairness which assures the interests of both the employer and the competent candidate. During an interview, all interviewees will face the same conditions, the same interviewers and questions with similar difficulty, which together prepare the candidates a stage of fair play. Then, the outstanding candidate has to surpass all the other interviewees in answering all sorts of questions or handling a number of tasks, which sticks to the principle—survival of the fittest. Last, the judgment is not made by one interviewer but usually by a group of interviewers, which avoids favoritism and promotes fairness in decision-making.
To sum up, seen with a positive attitude, an interview can be a win-win situation for both the employer and the job-hunter. If one fails an interview, he should not complain too much; instead, he should learn from this valuable experience and keep searching. Remember; where there is an interview, there is a work opportunity, and an opportunity for growth.
