    The education about being ready to help others we receive from childhood benefits us quite a lot, because helping whoever in need of help makes our life more meaningful. In modern society, however, less and less people would be willing to help the weak because of the extortion of Good Samaritan. The helpers may be extorted when they lend a helping hand, which may lead to the results of the helpers’ sadness and disappointment. Considering the factors contributing to the extortion, I hold the view that we should take two effective ways to solve the problems that we are confronted with and achieve the result of protecting the helpers.
    On the one hand, there are legal loopholes that tempt extortioners to get illegal benefits from the helpers by illegal means. Our country has neither a Good Samaritan law to help or protect the helpers, nor legal tools to punish those who attempt to extort the Good Samaritan. Nonetheless, the good news is that some local governments have begun to pay close attention to this social problem. Take Shenzhen government as an example. It is taking the legislation of Good Samaritan Protection into consideration, and nearly ninety percent people support this practice. We hope that the helpers won’t have any fear of attacks from behind under the protection of Good Samaritan Protection law.
    On the other hand, such a bad social phenomenon reveals the loss of people’s social morality. "Present rose to others with remaining fragrance at hand" is a famous British proverb, which means that doing a little thing for others would make you feel warm and happy. Being willing to help others is a kind of virtue, and it helps to promote a harmonious interpersonal relationship. The extortioners should put themselves in the helpers’ shoes when they are trying to frame a case against the helpers, and then they will feel ashamed for themselves. After going through such kind of immoral events, we could not deny the fact that moral deficiency has become a serious problem in China. Since the construction of social morality needs to be strengthened, we should call on every citizen to help the weak and reconstruct the trust between each other.
    All in all, the most effective way to protect helpers is to make sure that law and morality should work along both lines, so that our Chinese people could inherit fine traditions and create a harmonious society eventually.
