U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and U.S.  Defense Secretary Robert Gates are to brief President Bush today on their trips this week to the Middle East. The meeting will take place at the President’s retreat outside Washington. Rice’s trip to the Middle East, Germany and Britain was aimed at reviving Israeli-Ralestinian peace efforts and gaining support for the U. S. security plan for Iraq. In Kuwait, she won support from moderate Arab nations for a U.S. plan to send more troops to stabilize Iraq. Gates made a previously unannounced visit Friday to southern Iraq and met with U.S. and coalition military commanders.
