Food waste in Seattle is finally made into a kind of [br]
(11) In the northwestern United States, the city of Seattle requires residents to separate food waste from the rest of their trash. Food waste gets recycled into fertilizer for lawns, gardens and soon gets into a gas fuel. "The kind of gas fuel can provide electricity 8 million kilowatt hours to 10 million kilowatt hours per year. " says Klein, who works at Cedar Grove Farm in the north of Seattle. He says that truck after truck food waste is pulled into a huge warehouse of this farm, where an alternative energy will be made of it. It is a nice mix of green waste and other materials. (12) The program of making food waste into energy may be new to Americans, but it has been well established in Europe. (13) First, food waste will be separated and mixed with bacteria to help food to break down. (13) Then the mixture will be poured into a closed container, where the mixture will start releasing large amounts of special gas. (13) Instead of letting this kind of special gas escape into atmosphere, where it could contribute to global warming, workers on Cedar Grove Farm will suck it up and store it. (13) At last they burn it which is used as an electricity power to heat fertilizer facilities. Cedar Grove Farm has gotten a million-dollar grant from the state government to set up a company to pursue its food-to-fuel plan. Once the construction starts, the company can be set up and put into operation within a year.
