问题     Nowadays, a lot of Chinese students have chosen English as their major subject in college and engaged in English learning.
    Write a composition of about 200 words on the following topic : Chinese and English Majors.

    Are we English majors supposed to have a decent mastery of Chinese?
    In recent years, English has been so hot a subject that countless Chinese students devote themselves to intense study and research on it. But I think, meanwhile, the importance of abilities in Chinese should also be emphasized.
    As we all know, a rising tide lifts all boats. Chinese, as our mother tongue, plays the role of water and English, as a targeted language, is like a boat. So, obviously, Chinese is the basis of learning English and it’s the primary part to which we need to pay more attention to if we are eager to improve our English. By just taking a look at the people around us, we discover that those whose Chinese is good enough can really learn English very well.
    Apart from the need for English improvement, the ability to deal with translation and interpretation should also be considered. We know either translation or interpretation is an exchange of ideas between different languages. That is to say, when we understand what it means in English, we have to properly express it in Chinese. But sometimes or even often, we just talk way off the mark. I believe that is a problem many of our English majors are already facing. Therefore, it is absolutely imperative for us to gain a high level of competence in Chinese.
    Now, it’s clear that for us English majors that we are not likely to bear satisfactory fruit in English at the cost of abandoning our mother tongue. Thus, while focusing on English, we need to spare a sound amount of time and effort to make some great process in Chinese so that we can be truly good language learners.
