答案                 Car Consumption: to Encourage or to Restrict?
Owning a car has never been simply a personal choice, so to encourage or to restrict car consumption has always been a policy choice for government agencies. With traffic jam and environmental pollution at one hand, and economic development and consumption stimulus at the other , the discussion about which way should the policy be going has never ended . As for me, I don’t think to encourage is a good idea.
Those supporting the encouragement of car consumption have always played the economy card . Given the background of economic slowdown worldwide, China also needs consumption to support the economic development. Compared with developed nations, China still has a low car ownership rate, and this is also one reason held to argue for encouragement policy. But apparently they weren’t aware of environmental influences of car ownership. The citizens’ feelings about the air pollution surely confirm my claim . The increasing traffic jam has also made the convenience of private car a false claim . With more car owners forced to choose public transportation system as their major means for commute, owning a car has also become not so economically reasonable.
All in all, I would prefer a gradual process towards restraint of car consumption, since I am simply more convinced by the argumentations provided by the limiting side of the discussion.
