Robert would care if the Olympic Games were abolished because _______. [br]
Gordon: Who would really care if we abolished the Olympic Games?
Robert: Oh, I would. I think it is the television show of the decade.
Gordon: Oh really! Hours and hours in front of a TV set. What do you get out of it?
Robert: I think that nearly all the events are very exciting, and I get really involved.
Gordon: What is the excitement for you in the Olympic Games?
Robert: Their skills. You know, watching men run faster, jump higher, play better.
Gordon: Why is it actually exciting to watch a man run faster? It is exciting to watch a fantastic footballer playing with the ball, kicking, scoring goals, I can see that. But watching somebody running a race flat out-what are you admiring in that? Robert: I just want to watch it. I think it is great fun. I think it is a tremendous act of serf-discipline to achieve all these things. One can at least admire that.
Gordon: But many athletes use drugs, steroids and so on to build up this tremendous strength. I mean you even get doubts as to whether a female is female.
Robert: I don’t think that has got anything to do with it. The thing that matters is that the very best people are competing together and not merely, as in the past, the people that can afford to be amateurs.
