With finding a job so difficult, some students choose to pursue their post-graduate study so as to find a better job two or three years later. In your opinion, should postgraduate study be a means of improving job prospects, rather than pursuing academic interests?

     In my opinion, post-graduate study should be a means of pursuing academic interests.
     First, we must be quite clear about what we are studying for. Do we study only because a high degree will help us get a good job in the future? Of course not! We study for civilization: we learn science so as to invent more machines which could benefit our human beings; we learn philosophy so as to guide us to be a great man; we learn music so as to cultivate our sentiment. But we don’t learn for the sole purpose of improving job prospects; it’s really a shortsighted idea.
     Second, those students are selfish to use the difficulty of finding a job as an excuse to receive post-graduate education and then to get a better job. We study not only for ourselves, but also for others. We study for all the people in the world. In order to make their lives easier and happier, we study. In order to make the world a better place for all to live in, we pursue our study. If every one studies for themselves, the society will not make any progress.
     So I stand firmly with those who continue their post-graduate study as a means of pursuing academic interests.
