When we talk about intelligence, we do not mean the ability to get a good score on a certain kind of test, or even the ability to do well in school. These are at 【C1】______ only indicators of something far less important. By intelligence we mean a style of life, a way of behaving in 【C2】______ situations. The true test of intelligence is not how much we know how to do,【C3】______ how we behave when we don’t know what to do.
The intelligent person, meeting a new situation or problem,【C4】______ himself up to it. He tries to take【C5】______with mind and senses everything he can about it. He thinks about it,【C6】______ of himself. He deals with it boldly, imaginatively, resourcefully, and【C7】______ confidently, at least hopefully; if he 【C8】______to master it, he looks without fear or shame at his mistakes and one’s self with【C9】______ to life. Just as clearly, unintelligence is an entirely different style of behavior,【C10】______ out of entirely different set of attitudes.
Years of watching and【C11】______ bright children with the not bright have shown that they are very different kinds of people. The bright child is【C12】______ about life and reality, eager to get in 【C13】______ with it, embrace it, and unite himself【C14】______it. There is no wall, no barrier, between himself and life.【C15】______, the dull child is far less curious, far less interested in what 【C16】______ on and what is real, more inclined to live in a world of【C17】______. The bright child likes to experiment, to try things【C18】______. If he can’t do something one way, he’ll try another. The dull child is usually afraid to try at all. It 【C19】______a great deal of urging to get him to try even once; if that try fails, he is【C20】______. [br] 【C17】
选项
A、fascination
B、fantasy
C、fatalism
D、fatigue
答案
B
解析
名词辨析题。[A]fascination“魅力,迷恋”;[B]fantasy“想象,幻想”;[C]fatalism“宿命论,听天由命”;[D]fatigue“疲劳,劳累”。本句前半句指出迟钝的孩子对现实不感兴趣,由此可以判断他们更倾向于生活在幻想之中,所以[B]fantasy是答案。
