答案                                   Private Cars in China
Bicycles used to be the major means of transportation for most Chinese people. With the development of China’s economy more and more people begin to have cars of their own. It has become an indication of one’s living standard. However, in my opinion, private ownership of cars should not be encouraged in China.
There are several reasons for the limitation of private cars in China. First, cars contribute much to air pollution. In such large cities as Beijing and Shanghai where residents are more likely to buy private ears, air pollution has been very serious. The increasing number of private cars will inevitably aggravate the present situation. Second, private cars can be a formidable threat to traffic. Suppose what would happen if a large number of private cars rush onto the streets? During rush hours people suffer more from traffic jams. Spending more than one hour to and fro work is no longer an "Arabian Nights" story. Last but not least, the automobile consumes energy. Although our country is rich in natural resources, it should be remembered that it is not so rich in petroleum. Furthermore, in terms of population, one cannot smile with ease when it comes to the limited supply for private cars.
Then, what should be done to deal with the transportation problem? The answer lies in the development of public transportation. Various means of public transportation should be encouraged to replace private cars as much as possible. Also, the price of petroleum can be raised to a certain level so as to make car-driving expensive enough. All in all, private cars should be limited in China.
