    When it comes to celebrating western festivals, different people hold different views. Some people believe that celebrating western festivals will make us ignore our own ones, just like many youngsters’ practice that they observe the Valentine’s Day instead of the Double Seventh Day. However, others hold that we shouldn’t say no to the foreign festivals if they render us happiness and excitement. As far as I’m concerned, I insist that celebrating the western festivals benefits a lot.
    To start with, it can acquaint us with the foreign culture. For example, when we celebrate Christmas Day, we must trace the origin of the festival out of our curiosity and learn about the culture of the western countries in the end. Besides, the western festivals remind us of all that we should hold dear. For instance, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day enable us to focus our attention on our parents we probably have left aside for long. Finally, the western festivals can be integrated and inject exoticism into our traditional festivals. A case in point is that on the Double Seventh Day men send roses to their beloved just as they do on the Valentine’s Day.
    To sum up, we need neither criticize people celebrating western festivals, nor worry about losing our own tradition and identity. What we can do is to “make the foreign things serve China”, just as our forerunners said.
