    Nowadays, more and more wealth holders allocate an ever-greater portion of their financial resources to charity. Some people think that the rich just do what they should do. They believe that contribution is the responsibility of the rich. I cannot agree with them more.
    I have two reasons to support my view. On the one hand, the rich have a big share of social wealth, so they should assume a big share of responsibility in the charity business accordingly. It is generally accepted that the richest ten percent control more than half of the total wealth in many societies. On the other hand, contribution to the charity cause is the best way for the rich to reward the society where their wealth comes from. Carnegie once said, it is a shame to die in wealth. That’s why many wealthy people like Li Jiacheng, the richest man in Hong Kong, and Bill Gates, the world’s richest man for 13 consecutive years, would rather subscribe a great part of their fortune to the charity than give it all to their offsprings. All of them are rewarded with more respect and honors as well as higher social status.
    In conclusion, the wealthy should be civic-minded and charity-spirited. Just as Bill Gates said, with great wealth comes great responsibility to give back to society.
