M: Lisa, thanks for dropping in. I have good news for you.
W: Is it a job?
M: Yes. [4C]There’s an opening for a teacher’s assistant for sociology, and I thought you’d be perfect for it, so I asked Professor King to give it to you.
W: I’m really grateful to you for recommending me, but I already have a job.
M: You do?
W: Yes, I had some money problems, so I had to make a quick decision about work.
M: Um, could you tell me what your job is now?
W: Yeah. I’m a part-time kitchen assistant. The pay is not too bad. It’ll help me pay for personal stuff.
M: Well, you know, I’m happy you got a job, [5B]but I really think you would benefit from working as a TA. It would suit your aptitude so much more, and don’t forget, you’re a sociology major.
W: I know, but there’s a really important reason why I decided to take the job, professor. This semester, I’m writing a paper on social organization, and I decided to analyze the organization in a small restaurant. It’s walking distance from my dormitory, so I won’t have to spend too much time getting to work. I’m really very busy this semester.
M: I see. Well, I’m not really sure what tasks Professor King wants to assign his TA, but if the workload isn’t too heavy, would you consider doing it for him? I know you’re busy but I can’t think of anyone more suited to the role than you. And plus, he did remark that you’d be perfect.
W: Well, I can’t promise anything, but sure I’ll look into it. [6A]Knowing Professor King, though, there’ll be a lot of work to do.
