Should people provide help and support directly to those who need it in their local community or donate money to national and international charitable organizations? This has been an intensely discussed question for years. The following are the supporters’ and opponents’ opinions. Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your views on the issue.
Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.
YES
Even in the richest countries, there are still a lot of miserable people, such as refugees and orphans, suffering from famine and extreme poverty. For this reason, it is kind of us to help our fellow citizens by donating food or clothing to them.
Most people prefer direct involvement with services provided directly to people in need, especially in their own communities, because they can immediately make a significant difference in someone’s life by providing food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, and doctors for sick children.
Direct help involves more human touch and may create a bond between the givers and the receivers. In this way, the beneficiaries are more likely to become grateful and give back to their helpers and society when they are able to.
NO
Local and international charitable organizations can allocate the various resources received to a wider range of people according to their different needs.
Those who donate money to domestic and international charities believe that the collection of money has a tremendous effect on the poor countries compared with other forms of help. This is because few people are able to donate a large amount of money to construct schools, hospitals and roads in poor areas. Instead, governments and charities can achieve this.
The scale effect of these organizations can help raise far more donations than ordinary individuals.

答案
Direct Philanthropy or Charitable Organization
Facing the situation of choosing an approach to philanthropy, people often fall into dilemma. While some people prefer to provide direct help to neighbors in need for its convenience and immediate impact, others claim that money should be donated to domestic and international charities, which can not only distribute resources to more needy people in the world but also carry out large charity projects.
Personally, I believe both ways should be encouraged to do charity work. For one thing, when someone in your community gets into trouble, it may take him a long time to receive the aid from charities. Therefore, your direct help can improve his situation at once and his suffering situation will be relieved. For another, some problems are so arduous that an individual cannot tackle alone, such as poverty, pollution and natural disasters. Then the support from the government and charitable organizations is imperative.
In brief, either approach is worthy of respect as long as people in distress can obtain assistance and get through difficult times. However, no matter which channel people choose to promote charitable causes, it should be supervised by some institutions, making sure that money be well spent and aid sent to those most in need.
