M: Good morning. How can I help you?
W: Good morning. Umm, I understand you help fix up students with host families.
M: That’s right. Are you interested in...?
W: Yes...
M: Well, please sit down and I’ll just take a few details.
W: Thank you.
M: Right. What name is it?
W: Jenny Chan.
M: Can you spell that please?
W: Yes... J-E-N-N-Y C-H-A-N.
M: Great. Can I ask you your age?
W: I’ve just had my nineteenth birthday.
M: And how long would you want to stay with the host family?
W: I’m planning on staying a year, but at the moment I’m definitely here for four months only. I have to get an extension to my permit.
M: You’re working on it? Fine... and what will be your occupation while you’re in the UK?
W: Studying English?
M: And what would you say your level of English is?
W: Umm... I think I’d like to say "advanced", but my written work is below the level of my spoken. So I suppose it’s intermediate.
M: Certainly your spoken English is advanced. Anyway, which area do you think you would prefer?
W: Umm, well, I’m studying right in the centre, but I’d really like to live in the northwest.
M: That shouldn’t be a great problem. We usually have lots of families up there.
M: And do you have any particular requirements for diet?
W: Well, I’m nearly a vegetarian. Not quite.
M: Shall I say you are? It’s probably easier that way.
W: That would be best.
M: Anything about your actual room?
W: I would prefer my own facilities. If it’s possible, a TV. And I’d also like the house to have a real garden rather than just a yard, somewhere I could sit and be peaceful.
M: Is that all?
W: Well... I’m really serious about improving my English, so I’d prefer to be the only guest if that’s possible?
M: No other guests... Yes, you get more practice that way. Anyway, obviously all this is partly dependent on how much you’re willing to pay. What did you have in mind?
W: I was thinking in terms of about ?60-?80 a week, but I’d go up to a hundred if it was something special.
M: Well, I don’t think we’d have any problems finding something for you.
W: Oh, good.
M: And when would you want it for?
W: I’d like to move in in approximately two weeks.
M: Let me see. It’s the 10th today. So if we go for the Monday it’s the 23rd of March.
W: Yes, that’ll be fine.
This is the end of Conversation One.
Questions 1-5 are based on Conversation One.
1. What is the man’s occupation?
2. What do we learn about the woman?
3. Where does the woman want to live?
4. Why does the woman want a garden?
5. When does the woman want to move in?

选项 A、She plans to stay here for four months.
B、She thinks her English is advanced.
C、She’s going to have the permit extended.
D、She’ll teach English as a part-time job.

答案 C

解析 ①选项都以She开头,问题可能与女士相关,注意对话中相关细节的表述。②女士说她打算在寄宿家庭待一年,但是目前只能待四个月,她要办理居留许可延期手续。C项have the permit extended是对原文get an extension to my permit的同义替换,为正确答案。③A项中的four months应为one year。男士问到女士的英语水平时,她说本来想说自己的英语是advanced“高级的”,但她觉得写作水平没有口语那么高,所以她认为是intermediate“中级的”,故B项不对。D“她要兼职教英语”没有在对话中出现。
