答案     I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened the front door. When I had left home that morning the house had been clean and tidy. Now, everything was lying on the floor in a terrible mess. There were books on the carpet and all the drawers in my desk had been opened and the papers scattered round the room. I realized at once that I had been burgled. I rushed to the telephone to call the police. They told me to keep calm and not to touch anything.
    I decided to take a look round to see what had been stolen. The TV was still there and so was the video. I went into my bedroom and that seemed to be completely untouched. The mess was only in the sitting room. I couldn’t understand why, especially as nothing was missing.
    Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and my sister was standing there with her little boy, Tom. ’oh, dear,’ she exclaimed. ’Yes,’ I said, ’isn’t it terrible? I’ve called the police and they are on their way.’ Tom suddenly threw himself into my arms. "I’m sorry," he said. "It was me, it was me!"
