Can trees talk? Yes, but not in words. Scientists have reason to believe that trees do communicate with each other. Not long ago, researchers learned some surprising things. First a willow tree attacked in the woods by caterpillars (毛虫) changed the chemistry of its leaves and made them taste so terrible that the caterpillars got tired of the leaves and stopped eating them. Then even more astonishing, the tree sent out a special smell—a signal causing its neighbours to change the chemistry of their own leaves and make them less tasty.
Communication, of course, does not need to be in words. We can talk to each other by smiling, shrugging our shoulders or making gestures. We know that birds and animals use a whole vocabulary of songs, sounds and movements. Bees dance their signals, flying in certain patterns that tell other bees where to find nectar (花蜜) for honey. So why shouldn’t trees have their own ways of sending message? [br] According to the passage, caterpillars get tired of the leaves that______.
选项
A、have a terrible taste
B、are very tender
C、are in strange, shape
D、have holes in them
答案
A
解析
细节辨认题。根据题干中的get tired of可定位至首段第五句。文中提到柳树改变树叶中的化学成分使其树叶味道很糟糕,毛虫就会厌恶树叶的味道,由此可知,A)符合题意。
