    Lured by the big bucks, an increasing number of people in China play the lottery nowadays. Take Guangdong Province for example. The lottery sales in the province reach billions of RMB every year.
    Government-launched lotteries benefit China. For example, welfare lottery has provided impetus to China’s welfare development. Statistics showed that from 1987 to 1997, governments at all levels invested 1.41 billion yuan into urban welfare facilities, while welfare lotteries provided 4.1 billion yuan during the same period. However, lottery has its cons as well. The lottery would promote people’s "get rich quick" fantasies and induce some people to spend so much money on it that they end in bankruptey.
    In my view, people should play the lottery now that it is good for the country’s development. But they should play it with a recreational, relaxed and normal attitude. They should buy it rationally, taking into account their own financial means.
