W: Hi, Ted. I remember you once took a summer job at a furniture shop, didn’t you?
M: Yes, I did. Why ask?
W: Well. I can’t bear my old sofa any more. It is shaky, noisy and really uncomfortable. I wonder if you can give me some advice on the purchase of a new sofa.
M: No problem. We spend a majority of our time relaxing or gathering with friends and family on or around the sofa. It is important to choose this piece of furniture wisely.
W: Right. And sofas are often a considerable investment. So, what should I bear in mind when choosing a new sofa?
M: The first thing is to determine how it will be used. Most sofas are of standard depth ranging anywhere from 36 to 38 inches. You might want a deeper version for curling up. Or you may want a smaller sofa which you can pair with a few occasional chairs.
W: Hmm, I see. What else?
M: Knowing your personal style can help narrow down your quest for the perfect sofa and help you choose a style that reflects your lifestyle and personal taste.
W: OK.
M: Obviously, comfort should always be a consideration. The more expensive ones are usually of upgraded fill.
W: I’m afraid I don’t have much money to spare.
M: Another consideration when choosing a sofa is to determine what color you will choose for the piece. Trust me, you don’t want a sofa that jumps into each guest’s eyes immediately after they come in. Even though you like the color very much, think about the colors in your room.
W: I haven’t thought about that.
M: Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll find a sofa that suits you best.
